More Airport Stuff

Hey All!

So, yesterday I came in to work and I saw that there were some jets sitting on the tarmac. The airport I work at is pretty small and besides the usual Air Canada Dash-8's and Westjet 737's, the majority of planes we get are just small Cessnas and the odd personal jets in the winter owned by rich as shit CEOs going heli-skiing. So, it's pretty exciting seeing some cool planes like this.

These planes are pretty old. You can tell just by looking at the weathered paint. A lot of it has flaked off around the engine cowlings. None the less it's pretty sweet to see these things up close.

Also, I will be leaving to Fiji in 6 days so I won't be updating for a little while. I'll try to update from my iPhone when I can find a wi-fi network but no guarantees. Either way, though, I'll have lot's of cool stuff to share when I get back!

What I do

So I work at a small airport as a ramp attendant. It's a pretty cool job as I get to work with planes and work outside. I figured I'd share a short video I took the other day while some of the guys parked one of Westjet's 737-700's as it arrived from Calgary. I wasn't working this flight because I was working a different flight. Enjoy.

P.s. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what this blog will be about. For right now I think I'm just going to share some of the cool things from my everyday life along with my opinions of the world and see how it evolves from there!

Lazy Son of A Bitch

Yes Yes Yes,

I know it's been forever since the last time I posted on here but I'm back! And I'm here to share some goodies from my trip!

I hope that a few of you guys are Atmosphere fans and if not, I suggest you go check them out now.

Well I went to go see them in Vancouver on May 10 at The Vogue. I've been to a lot of concerts in my day but I can say with confidence that that was THE best show I have ever been to in my entire life. The atmosphere (pardon the pun) in that theatre was nothing short of incredible. It was like there was this energy flowing through that entire place. There was this really crazy sense of community and family about the whole night and you could tell it was reciprocated by Slug.

Here's some video I took of one of his songs. Sorry the filming is a little shaky. I tried to pay as little attention as possible to what I was filming because I wanted to watch slug rather than my iPhone screen.

Again, if you don't know Atmosphere, please check them out!!

This is my favorite song by Atmosphere. It's about Slug's regret about not appreciating his dad while he was still around. He closed with this song. It takes a lot to make me cry but I tear up every time I hear this song.

Oh yeah and also, I turned 21 today!!

My New (Old) Kodak Zoom 8 Camera

Last weekend I went to a neighborhood-wide yard sale that they have in my city every year. 98% of the stuff there was complete crap, but there was a few really cool things. One of those cool things I found was this vintage Kodak 8mm camera from the 60's. There are no batteries or plug in, it is powered by winding a key on the side.
It came with it's own manual and everything!
Super retro picture from the manual

The only thing I need to do now is figure out where to find a projector so I could actually view the footage. I'm pretty excited about this because I'm a huge fan of the the way that 8mm film looks.

I'm pretty sure I have a few followers who are photography and tech buffs so I look forward to seeing your comments!

Welp...The Conservatives Won

Conservative leader Stephen Harper about to celebrate his win by breaking a kitten's neck
So the Conservatives won. I can't say I didn't really expect it. I really thought the NDP had a shot coming up to the election, though. I'm not even angry about this. I'm just disappointed. Disappointed in a country that would vote for a politician who literally appointed a man who will not confirm his belief in evolution as the Minister of Science. Oh well. Like Tupac said...that's just the way it is.

Awesome Song

I listen to this song several times a day and still can't get enough of it. Music like this restores my faith in me that there is still artists out there churning out some amazing stuff.

Cost of a Royal Wedding

From the first second I heard that Kate Middleton and Prince William were getting married, my first reaction was....who cares? As the days were leading up to the wedding and media coverage was amping up and I started hearing more and more about it on tv, the radio, the internet etc. my thoughts were....who cares? When I noticed that google and youtube had stylized their logo's in a royal wedding theme I started to think....someone really cares about this. Though, I still couldn't rap my mind around how people could care about two complete stangers getting married in a place thousands of kilometers away. My stance towards the wedding was that it was ridiculous to congratulate two people who have been extremely wealthy and privelidged from birth for getting together and being rich and privelidged together. Needless to say, I had no intentions to watch the wedding. After I had learned that my mom had erased Trailer Park Boys the Movie to make room on the PVR for 7 hours of wedding porn, it only increased my hatred for the whole thing.
After arriving home late from a blues/rock show with my friend, I came home to see my mom sitting and watching the wedding. She was watching just as a crowd of roughly 100,000 people were marching up to the castle to watch William kiss Kate. The atmosphere of the crowd was one of pure elation. The beauty and romance of the whole event had inspired these people in such a way that could only come at a price tag of no less than $15-$60 million (Maclean's estimate: http://tinyurl.com/44ogb78 ). Despite the joyous energy of the crowd, fed by the shared love of this particular couple, all I could think of was....how many children in third world countries could that one fly-over cost?
It's hard to balance out your emotions for such a spectacle such as this. On one hand, these people are being inspired by a love story bigger than life. A love story that simply wouldn't have the same gravity behind it without all the lavish jewlerry, expensive jets etc. On the other hand, there are people in the world with problems that most of the 100,000 people in the crowd waiting to watch William kiss Kate on that balcony couldn't even begin to fathom. People with problems that could be solved if only the money for a wedding for two people who are only in their position through coincidence and chance, had been a little less lavish. Like really...$78,000 for a cake? Where is the starving child in Africa's slice?

Fiji trip.....also first post. Sweet

So on June the 4th I will be going to Fiji. It will be my first time travelling outside of North America. I went to Hawaii when I was 9 but I don't think that really counts as outside of North America. I'm pretty excited to be seeing a culture that is completely different from mine for the first time.
